Subtitle: My thoughts on the Deus Ex series.
Most of you who visit this blog will know what Deus Ex is. There is also a large chance that you are fans of the game, seeing as you know me. Therefore, I won’t bother with an introduction to either game in the franchise. I will, however, share my thoughts on why Deus Ex 2 disappointed so many people (included, to some extent, myself) even though it was quite a decent game in and of itself.

So, I just finished Beyond Good & Evil. Hell of a game, I must say. Rather linear, but the compelling story made up for it. It’s a strangely light-weight game, in terms of gameplay, compared to what I usually play, which can be attributed to its console-port origins. The controls were very simple (and a bit oddly mapped at times), and the character interaction was eh… limited. So its only real strengths were the gameplay and the story, and I’d give it max scores on both counts.

Okay, so I was apparently a few days early in taking that picture. What I REALLY meant to post was this:
This is what passes for a blizzard in Denmark. I would expect more storm from a snow storm, but who am I to question the meteorologists on TV? The best thing about weather like this is how it will inspire the TV news to be completely filled with enlightening interviews along the lines of “Is it even possibly to get around up there?” “Well, yes, it is. Although we urge drivers to be careful.” or “What consequences will it have that a snow plow has gotten stuck on the freeway?” “It won’t really have any consequences because as soon as they get it out again, it’ll resume its work.” They actually sent a “report” from some pretty female journalist who was standing in 30 cm of snow on some field on Bornholm, telling how snowy it was >_<
But hey, as long as you’re in-doors (and I generally do my best to be), it’s all very pretty.

Civilization 4,
I have underestimated you. I admit defeat. Two nights in a row, you have kept me up ’till 5 am. I thought I was prepared tonight, I thought I was ready to face your evil ways and go to bed early. I thought I was just going to play for an hour.
I played for 5.
And I didn’t even win.

So, this year’s harvest, just like the last 5 or so years, was mostly depending on quality to make up for the very small quantity. The parents and I don’t associate much with my peripheral family, so I only get 2-3 gifts each year, depending on how many my parents decide to buy. Fortunately, they rocked.

Dagnabbit! Now I hear Splinter Cell 4 is soon to be released, and it has adventure-like infiltration elements in it! Bah! BAH! I say. This means I have yet another game to play. Ah well, on the other hand I’ve completed CoD2 and decided to skip The Sims because I just can’t muster the enthusiasm to even install it on my computer. So now I guess the list looks like this:
- Beyond Good & Evil
- System Shock 2
The Sims
- Mafia
- Fable - The Lost Chapters
- Age of Empires III
- Civilization 4
Call of Duty 2
- Splinter Cell 4
- Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
- Neverwinter Nights 2
The only reason SC4 is all the way down there is because it isn’t done yet. I listed the three unreleased games in their presumed order of appearance. Well… guess I should try to get BG&E over with then. Thank God it’s such a good game or I might really get depressed

I finished Call of Duty 2 today. It can be summed up as an awesomely chaotic and immersive fast-paced action game set in WW2.
In the first game, the Russian campaign was my favourite since it was a complete ripoff of the movie Enemy at the Gates, which is one of the best movies in my sparse DVD collection. Additionally, the snow-filled bombed-to-tiny-pieces setting of Stalingrad provided a very different battleground than what I was used to from WW2 games and movies (which mostly take place in France and Germany for some reason, and occasionally the pacific if you’re fighting the Japanese).

Having three email accounts is kinda like having a couple of different identities from which to choose at will. One moment, I’m Jonas - co-leader of Off Topic Productions. The other I’m Jonas - generic guy at Greenpeace who answers stupid mails from junior high students. One moment I’m an aspiring game designer, the other a pseudo-environmentalist.
It’s great, really.

After approximately 8 hours of work, my new file dump is up. Random Outbursts of Creativity version 2.0 has snuck into existence thanks to OiNutter, who spent three nights upgrading my CSS knowledge to include positioning and teaching me the basics of PHP programming. While the HTML and the style sheets for the page were created by me under his guidance, the PHP was made by him. It serves to include the nav bar on every page so I can change the menu on all pages by altering one file, and it dynamically creates a display page for the full size versions of my cat pictures when a thumbnail is clicked.
You must all worship OiNutter as the god of web development. I mean it.
The design itself was made with simplicity in mind. It’s not a large and complicated site to navigate, so it makes sense to me that the site should be equally minimalistic. There are some jscript onmouseover effects on the nav bar, and that’s all the fanciness you get this time. I also took care to use the same colours in its design as this blog uses. Give it up for uniformity.
