A state of slight disrepair

Wow, look at that. It’s almost been a month since my last post. I guess I should dust off the pen and scribble a bit again, I feel like rearranging my brain right now.

Work is great, working full-time has the added bonus of getting paid lunch breaks, which is awesome. I’m learning a LOT of stuff all at once, so sometimes when I get home, my head feels like it’s crammed so full of new knowledge, it’ll start dripping out my ears at any moment. The various sections and institutions of the Ministry of Culture are using three different systems to run their servers, so it can be pretty confusing to figure out how to do simple things like unlocking a user account. Not to mention having to ask people for their computer name all the time, and figuring out if they’re using Windows XP or 2000 and Office XP or 2000.

But I’m getting there. I feel like an idiot for now, but the feeling is gradually decreasing. A few days ago, I was given access to the website of our department, which I will be maintaining, and as I am quite proficient at making my way around HTML, it was a very welcome opportunity to not feel useless.

I’m working on TNM while writing this post. In fact I’m writing it incrementally while I wait for the maps to rebuild. Some of those maps take a LONG time to rebuild. I decided I want us to churn out another alpha on or immediately after Monday as the easter holidays end on Tuesday. All of today and yesterday was devoted to TNM with the exception of a few hours out to visit my grandmother at the hospital for her birthday today. Shane had some finals on Wednesday, and after those, he’s been extremely active on the mod, setting up one of our largest maps with enemies and triggers and such and pumping out code. We’ve eliminated a lot of bugs including some rather old ones, and we only have 2 more maps and some tweakage left until the first two missions of the mod are completely playable bar our two last geometrically unfinished maps, which are both part of the first mission. It really is a pleasure to see the mod come along so nicely, especially when most of the progress is my own doing. I can’t see what could possibly stop us from releasing the next alpha on monday, bar natural disaster.

This mod has better look as good in my portfolio as I think it will.

It’s my birthday tomorrow. Sunday, that is… technically it’s Saturday now, so yeah: Tomorrow. I’ll be 20. W00T.

Neverwinter Nights 2 is due out in September. This one is official. I nearly wet myself in anticipation when I think about the new toolset and the new rendering engine. I doubt there is any better place to work in the whole world than Obsidian right now. I could probably be convinced to sacrifice my package for the position of designer in that company. I already have grand plans for modding NWN2 when it comes out, so I’m slightly desperate to release TNM before that happens.

Oh yeah, and Torsten promised me I could have Spain when he takes over the world. So W00T @ that too.
