The allure of bargains
Steam has 75% off on Two Worlds this weekend. Yes, that’s seventy-five percent. You can get it right now for 10 dollars. I was never very interested in it because I kinda had my fill of open-world fantasy RPG’s with Oblivion, and TW was alledgedly inferior to Oblivion, so I didn’t see the point.
I just checked Metacritic and TW has an average score of 66%, but PC Gamer UK gave it 71%, so it can’t be all bad, and frankly for 10 dollars, it’d have to be a really poor game not to merit a download. Of course the real allure is that it supports up to 8 players in co-op. Co-op was the main thing Oblivion was missing, so it seems like a no-brainer to me. I’ve bought TW and am downloading it now.

A shitty game is shitty game - no matter what it costs. I often buy bargain games but in almost all cases I was interested in them long before they became bargain offers. As long as there are either good new releases and/or older games with good replay value available I won’t waste my time on average games like Two Worlds.
Three days ago I bought Jade Empire for 10€ and today I actually bought The Orange Box for 30€ (because they plan to sell the games seperatley for much higher prices and I feared they might stop this offer).

It was the full “Jade Empire - Special Edition” complete with poster, artbook and steelbook btw… It was the actually the weight of the cardboardbox with the steelbook in it that tempted me… It felt very satisfying when I opened the box and found all that because normally the bargain offers don’t come with anything but the game discs - not even a printed manual.

I bought Two Worlds a few hours ago after being told it was on sale…. and… well i simply can´t play it for very long at a time. The voice acting is SO bad and so is the script…..its really really really bad…….

Just played it for an hour and a half. It doesn’t seem like a bad game. The combat is alright and the controls are decent. I’m having trouble controlling the horse - I bet it’s calibrated for an Xbox 360 controller. My horse control problems eventually resulted in my getting stuck half-way up a cliff. Can’t get the damn horse down from there. I can get off the horse and play on but I’d just got the bloody creature as a quest reward, I’d like to use it for a bit.
The VA is terrible, that’s true, but it doesn’t physically hurt me, so I’m alright. The graphics are decent and I like the art direction. It’s a pretty decent game for 10 bucks.
