Damn you, horror!
The upcoming Alone in the Dark looks fantastic. The video previews alone have showed off too many fresh new ideas and amazing details to count, and the gameplay looks a lot like MacGuyver: The Horror Game. It pains me to know I will never ever ever get to play this game precisely because of the “horror” part.
It’s bad enough that apparently all games these days must have a horror element (of course I exaggerate, but even Mass Effect has creepy zombie-like enemies for crap’s sake), but I don’t understand why there are so many outright horror games - is fear just the only real emotion that can easily be conjured up by video games?

If you like Doom Metal like Black Sabbath played it, you should check out Saint Vitus - if you don’t know them yet. I think they’re brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpVUMuLLqug&feature=related

THEN WHY SHOULD I!? Did I just tell you I don’t like horror!? Oh look… YES I DID!
Though horror in films isn’t nearly as bad as horror in games because a horror film will carry on as the screenwriter intended no matter what I do, whereas a horror game expects me to move the plot towards the next fright.

Face your fears! Maybe you should watch (the original) dawn of the dead while you’re at it, although I have a hard time classifying that as horror. It’s hilarious by today’s standards.

Well I’ve played Bioshock and Half-Life 2 and Thief 3 and I’ve sat through FEAR, so I’ve done what I can to face my fears. It’s not getting any easier.

Yet another cool band doing it Sabbath-style I’ve learned about just today:
