Deus Ex For Free
It’s a fetching title, isn’t it?
At first, you might think “A-hah! At last the UN has recognized that access to Deus Ex is a basic human right and started distributing the game for free to third world countries”, but no - actually it’s Gametap. But that’s almost as good! According to favourite blog Rock, Paper, Shotgun (RPS):
Gametap, that surging faucet of digital delivery, has announced that it’ll be featuring candidate for best game ever, Deus Ex, on its free games roster as of next week.
Finally my concerns about the possible necessity to include Deus Ex with The Nameless Mod in future job applications are void! Furthermore, it is no longer necessary for all those friends of mine who have lost 2-3 Deus Ex CD’s (when will people learn to take proper care of their artifacts, seriously?) to pirate the all-time greatest game when I draft them to playtest TNM. Just check out the first comment from the RPS post to see what I mean:
OMG this is awesome news my Deus Ex Disc is worryingly scratched i wake up in cold sweats at night wondering if the next time i install it will be the last, before going to the shops and getting a new one I mean, or downloading it, or running the copy i keep on 2 different hard drives one plugged in one not, actually maybe this isn’t relevant to me, but an excuse to talk about how amazing Deus ex is should never be passed up!
Sound religious to you? Well it is. It’s Deus Ex.
On an amusing side note, this very moment in time demonstrates perfectly why I love RPS so much: My top two favourite video games of all time were posted about in immediate succession - Planescape: Torment and Deus Ex. Those guys have damn good taste in games. Well, most of the time. I’ll forgive them their weird Trials 2 obsession ![]()

Did you ever even unpack them?

I still have the CD in very good state, you don’t need the CD to play so I don’t know how these people manage to destruct them

Personally I store my original DX CD in a display case in the middle of the living room, surrounded by moving lasers connected to primed automatic gun turrets concealed in the ceiling.

I can confirm that Jonas actually stores his DX cd in that way he describes…
But yeah, I actually unpacked it, you played the first 2 level with me, and you were suprised that I survived considering the way I played it

The fact that you survived is more a compliment to Deus Ex than to you, frankly. Deus Ex is not Quake MP, but the fact that the game supports such a playstyle is testament to the solidity of its core gameplay.
