I've been playing the game for a few weeks now. I've restarted twice because of how different it was at the beginning with character creation, and I didn't want to go the whole game wishing I had developed them differently.

I will say that initially I wasn't so sure I would like it, but it has definitely grown on me. I love the huge RPGs (Elder Scrolls, Oblivion, Fallout 3), and this is starting to earn its place in the interesting category. The only small quibbles I have are I want a 5 person party (with 4 I always feel like I'm leaving behind a needed part and can't double-up in any class), the view selection is a bit wonky, and I would like a more Fallout 3 movement system, but again these are minor items.

Well I may find the time for another playthrough over the christmas break, if I can squeeze it in between exams and christmas even (when I am at risk of receiving a couple of new games to play). I want to try a Bizarro World playthrough where I do everything the opposite of how I did it on my first playthrough, and I'll definitely pick up Sten. I'll also want to use Shale more, I did complete his/her/its personal quest, but I probably missed out on a lot of Shale-specific content by leaving him/her/it in the camp for most of the game.

Huh, a lot less gushy than I expected, I even agreed on most points.

You did yourself a great disservice by not taking Sten though, he is the best written companion in the game, perhaps even better than Allie.
