Background: Rolane-Firstson's history is one of losing the path that he started out on. He is a Garou, a wolf-like creature whom used to live in the forests and open fields of Corindus centuries ago, hunting in small packs. They were mostly shunned by the races, mistaken to be monsters, and chased away, which the Garou themselves appreciated. They shunned society, and preferred to live on their own. It was only 600 years ago that the first contact between Garou and the races began. Legends go that Flamingeye-Thirdson was left for dead after being attacked by a group of orcs. It was the little people(halflings) that brought Flamingeye-Thirdson to their home, nurtured him back to live, and initiated the first trade with Flamingeye's tribe. With the help of the halflings, the Garou slowly began to lose their reputation as mindless killers, and became a more accepted part of society. For the first time, Garou were seen on Galina. Because of this legend on how the Garou came in contact with the other races, Garou are known to have great respect for the halflings. But I suppose you would want to learn a bit more about the Garou society as well. Fine. Garou themselves live in small tribes, each consisting of a few dozen packs. A human would refer to a pack as a family. For a Garou, his personal duty is first to his pack and then to the tribe. Packs themselves are often known to travel from tribe to tribe. Know this... for a Garou, his own name is his most pricest possession. A Garou has two names... his pack's name, and his own name. The pack's name is decided upon birth by the father, while a Garou's own name is how others will refer to him. The pack's name is only known within the pack itself and will never be revealed to anyone outside. It is, in fact, a very little known fact for the other races that a Garou possesses two names. A Garou's own name is how he is referred to by others. When a Garou is a born as a little cubling, he possesses no names of his own. He is awarded his first name after passing through the trials of growth(explained later on). The name that he earns here is based off either his father or his mother(depends on the gender). After this, a Garou can decide to try and pass the trials of indepedence. These trials are not often passed by every Garou due to their loyalty to the tribe. If a Garou passes these trials, he will receive a new name of his own, a great honor. If a Garou would actually do a great feat for their tribe, there is a very rare occurance that a Garou may even receive a title. These Garou are often seen as high of stature and are often seen leading a tribe. Garou themselves are traditionalists, and prefer to live in the wilds in their tribes. However, due to contact that they've begun to get with other races, some tribes have actually begun to live in towns and cities. Some tribes harbour great ill for others who have 'begun to lose sight of their way', but each tribe is allowed to make its own choices. If a choice is made that is wrong by the Garou standards, it is said that Arro, the goddess of the Garou, will personally hunt each and every member of the tribe. This is what I can tell you of the Garou so far... how about we continue with Rolane's tale then? The young cublin was born 36 years ago under a full moon. His father had passed the trial of independence a few weeks earlier and had just received the name of Rolane. Because of his nature from the start, Rolane bestowed the name 'howler' upon his first born. When it was time for the 20-year-old Garou to go through the trials of growth. A small group of Garou whom are ready to become of age has are to band together to form a Ta. Usually, these consists of 7-15 Garou. They are to leave their tribe for an entire year in the wilderness, to survive on their own. They are not allowed to have any sort of contact with other Garou, it is all about survival without their tribe. They are allowed to have contact with other races, if need be. The young Garou desperatley tried to become the head of the Ta, but he was quickly beaten down by three others. His role in the Ta was a watchman. While the others would sleep or hunt, the young -race- would watch over them from dangers from afar. More than once did he save his Ta from approaching dangers with his early warnings. A year passed, and of the original 13 Garou, only 6 of the Ta returned to the tribe. The young cub was greeted with honors, and he received the name "Rolane-Firstson", named after his own father, with firstson indicating that he was the first Garou in his father's pack whom passed the trials of growth. When Garou had returned, he was also able to meet 'Farseer', his little sister whom had been born during his absence. Because of the tales that were spun around Rolane-Firstson's activities in the Ta, he became one of the few watchmen in his tribe, called Azdam. For ten years, he grew to be a sly Garou, being able to sneak past dangers to warn his tribe of the troubles. His father and mother also had two more cubs, "Dark"(called that because of his darker fur) and "Brawler". Rolane-Firstson's personal instincts served him well back then, and he started to consider undergoing the trials of Independence. However, during these years, there was also much hostility against Rolane's pack. Rolane-Firstson's mother, Triel, was accused of harbouring evil powers within her(magic). It was only respect that Rolane commanded that kept the tribe from acting upon their fears. One night, while perched up high in a tree to watch for any dangers, Rolane-Firstson was scouting ahead for any potential dangers. His eyes were on the open fields to the south-east when he heard a low rumbling behind him. Turning around, he saw a bright light coming from the cave where his pack was staying. Howling for help, he rushed straight to the cave, but the cave had already collapsed when he got there. With the help of other Garou, he removed most of the debris, and was able to get his brothers and sister from the rubble. There was no trace from either Rolane or Triel... although no Garou would say it to Rolane-Firstson in his face, many suspected that Triel had personally lost control of her powers and eradicated herself and her husband. And Rolane-Firstson himself also harbours these feelings. It's because of this that Rolane-Firstson left the tribe to go on the Trial of Independence. This trial is where a Garou is to be completely on his own out there, without a Ta to aid him. For a Garou, he knows when it is time to end the trial, and return to his tribe. After making sure that his brothers and sister were save with another pack, Rolane-Firstson took his first few steps away from Tribe Azdam. Little would he realise that it would take considerably longer to ever see the tribe ever again. Rolane-Firstson wandered the world on his own, seeking a reason for wandering on his own. He remained in a small town for a few months, when he encountered an old halfling trader called Gekm. The trader knew a great deal of information about the surroundings, and was always more than willing to listen to any traveller, and share tales with. One evening, Gekm and Rolane-Firstson talked over an ale, where Gekm revealed the existance of the Order, an organisation bent on watching over sorcerers and that their powers are not misused. One of Gekm's personal friends had apparantly started this little organisation. Intrigued by the order, and believing that he had finally found a challenge worthy of the Trial of Independence, Rolane-Firstson joined the order. In hindsight, perhaps it's not so strange that Rolane-Firstson lost the Garou way. For the next few years, he started to be trained in a new arts that were unfamiliar to him, and he basically had to rebuild his every instinct to serve the Order. Aside from him being Garou, he doesn't really stand out in the order when it comes to his skills. Rolane-Firstson himself isn't completely aware when it started, but at some point, he had begun to lose his personal instincts, and found himself being more drawn to the humans that led the order. His sense of smell, his inner instinacts and his sense of loyalty to his own pack and tribe... they started to vanish. In fact, he slowly began to lose sight of his own tribe, and began to see the Order as 'his tribe', and one day... he realised that he had forgotten about his own pack. And thus, when it became time for Rolane-Firstson to return to his own original tribe and to his pack to complete his Trial of Indepdence... he didn't. Ashamed of losing his own way, he vowed to return to the tribe when he, inside, would know that he had the instincts of a Garou again. Still, he also knows that he will try to find a balance, because he has begun to greatly care for the order and what they have taught him. He has received his first mission from the Order a few weeks back, the first time that he is allowed to go out on his own, very much like the Trial of Independence. Although careful with his actions, he is looking forward to see what he can accomplish. Although he sees the Order as his 'tribe', he never really bonded enough with a group in the organisation that he would call his own pack. One of the things that he hopes to find out there is a pack of his own, something that he has been missing ever since he left the tribe. |

Appearance: Like most Garou, Rolane-Firstson is slightly taller than an average humour. His skin is patted with a darkish gray fur with a few spots where his red skin can be seen, which was a result of a fight he had with a lion while undergoing the Trial of Growth. His eyes are a bright green in color which shine in the night. Again, like with most Garou, the eyes of Rolane-Firstson betray his intelligent nature. His mouth is filled with large, sharp, point teeth which over the years have gotten a yellow tainted color. He has a low voice which is often accompanied with a growl, and he speaks with a peculiar accent. |
|
Personality: Although Garou have become more widely accepted throughout the years, Ralone First-Son has often still encountered some hostility because of his appearance. Because of this, he can be very hesitant in approaching someone, and prefers that someone else makes the first move for him. Once he is aware of the nature of someone else, he is known to be humble of his own abilities, offer praise to other folks(especially halflings) and tries to avoid any sort of a fight. In his own mind, Rolane-Firstson has passed the Trial of Independence already. Because of this, he is willing to talk to other Garou. His inner instincts, some of what is left, however find it most unusual, and he doesn't feel comfortable around others of his kind. |
